(You should really tell me these things BEFORE I write XD)

Saint began to cower before ripping his arm out of the doctor's grasp and backing away, mumbling to himself.

""S just a dream, just a dream, people can control their dreams, this isn't really real, this isn't really real..." He hissed as the back of his eyes began to burn and fumbled his hand out in front of him desperately. He stumbled and nearly fell but something caught him and he didn't even bother fighting back against the grip, deciding that dying in a dream probably couldn't be half as bad as dying in real life.

(Sorry I didn't know that you were going to write that XD;)

Camden lunged forward to catch Saint as he stumbled, gripping him firmly but gently. Saint clearly couldn't support himself at the moment.

"Saint, we have to get out of here, co-come on. Please, I can't do this on my own. You've got to try to snap out of it," Camden begged, increasingly desperate. He shuffled backwards, away from whatever had Saint so terrified. They needed to get away, but Camden couldn't remember how to get out of here, this strange desolate place. He didn't even know how he had gotten here.

Saint looked up at up at Camden, having completely forgotten he was there, before swallowing thickly and nodding.

"Right. Running away." He nodded. "Sounds good."

"Can you walk? I-I really can't hold you up much longer," Camden murmured, looking in the direction of whatever Saint had been so terrified of. He wondered if it was gone.

Saint didn't take his eyes off the doctor before fumbling to his feet, grounding himself with a hand on Camden's shoulder. The doctor grinned that sickly smile of his and he had to fight back bile.

"We should go..." he whispered, still unable to tear his eyes away from the older man. Fighting a desperate battle in his head to try and convince himself that this wasn't real, Saint's hand moved down Camden's arm before clasping the other boy's hand and tugging him in the opposite direction of the leering doctor. "Come on, quickly."

Camden nodded and concentrated on matching Saint's increasingly desperate pace. He barely even registered that Saint had grabbed his hand. It was far more important to get the hell away from whatever was chasing them.

Saint and Camden had gone a few yards before the first looked down and suddenly gasped, quickly letting go of Camden's hand. "I'm sorry!" he yelped, making sure he didn't go anywhere near Camden. "I didn't mean to hurt you!" He looked down at the boy's hand sorrowfully. He'd been gripping way too hard.

Camden blinked, then looked down at his hand. It was white in the places where Saint had gripped him, almost a little bit purple at the edges. He hadn't noticed.

"No-no it's fine! I didn't even feel it until you pointed that out. Really, it's fine," Camden insisted. He gave Saint what he hoped was a reassuring smile.

"Do you think we ran far enough?" He looked behind them nervously. The flickering blue swirls did little to ease him. They were a bit freaky, in fact. It was easy to see faces and figures out of the corner of his eyes, only to find that it was the swirls.

Saint looked behind Camden and saw no one. With a brisk nod, he turned again and began walking at a quickened pace, looking back every now and then to make sure Camden was close behind.

"We should go to that other place now..." he suggested quietly, subdued by the run-in with the doctor. Who had been dead for at least two months now.

"Alright," Camden replied.

"Do you...remember how to do that?"

It was the strangest thing. His mind felt like it was running in slow motion, and sometimes rewinded or skipped a scene without any warning. It scared him more than he was willing to let on.

Camden tilted his ehad to the side, looking at saint for a moment, before closing his eyes and trying to remember what that other place had looked like. White and glowey... He hoped the vague image that came to mind would be enough as he took a small step forward.

Camden stumbled as they appeared in the suddenly blinding Realm. It hadn't been like this before. It had been bright, yes, but not in a way that seared his eyes. It had been...healing almost.

"Shit," he muttered as he brought his hand up to his face, sight blurring and head pounding.

"Yeeaahh..."

And then screeching metal music was blaring in his ear and he shot out of bed like a spring, violently knocking over his bedside table in the process.

James groaned, cracking his eyes open slowly. His alarm clock was sprawled on its side, weakly emitting the music that had so rudely awakened him. A crack now graced its screen. The top drawer of the night table had fallen open and a large quantity of junk was now spilling out, like the guts of a dying animal. And he was pretty sure he was going to have a nasty bruise on the back of his head in a few minutes.

A typical morning.

Justin jolted on the cot, a sharp gasp coming to his lips at the oddly ruder-than-usually awakening. He looked to the nurse that stood over him with pursed lips and hard eyes and knew that they knew and that he was so screwed.

"Ma'am?"

It was better to be polite when they were pissed. Kinda cushioned the blow. Thursdays were bad enough, and now this.

"The Director wishes to see you first thing this morning. A guard and I shall accompany you to make sure you aren't sidetracked again." She said this last sentence with a twitch of her upper lip. Disdain, anger, annoyance, he didn't know which emotion, he just knew it was one of those. This was Nurse Margaret. She kinda hated him. More than the others.

"Yes ma'am." He lowered his voice to a more subdued tone, ducking his head in shame. Then, standing from his bed, he wiped his sweaty palms on the cotton scrubs and stepped out the door, a slight limp from yesterday slowing him down.

James blinked water from his eyes as he turned off the shower faucet. He reached through the curtains and felt for his towel, then swiped it from the rack. The blond quickly toweled off and stepped out of the shower. His toes curled slightly at the coldness of the tile flooring. He could make out a flicker of movement in his peripheral vision. James turned in the direction of the movement, but it was gone. He rubbed his eyes.

Need my glasses...

He fell back to the task of getting ready for school. Clothes. Find glasses. Eat cereal bar. Put on shoes. Stuff homework into backpack. Grab backpack and leave house. Walk-

James swayed as a flash of-of something crossed his vision. God, he had never seen anything like this before! Everything looked so different and bizarre and his head was pounding like it was going to split open. But that didn't even matter because this was so strange and beautiful. He coudln't even find words for it.

And then it was gone and he was left standing on the very edge of the sidewalk, two centimeters away from falling into the street. James half sat half fell on the curb, disoriented and confused.

"Hey you okay kid?"

James looked up and saw a woman, probably someone's mom staring at him from a car in the road.

"Yeah sorry. Just uh...Yeah."

She raised an eyebrow.

"You have like seven minutes to get to school. Just dropped my daughter off. Better hurry."

James nodded and stood slowly, then started heading back in the direction of school.

Seven minutes. Ha. No way he was going to make it without running. Better to be late. Always better to be late. His parents would call in and make up some excuse for him like they always did.

Because they just loved him so very much.

Mrs. Hashner, the counselor at the attendance desk, didn't look surprised in the least to see James as he entered the office and made his way to one of the chairs by the door.

"Mr. Larson, just go to class. You only missed the first five minutes. You've missed your first period so often that it's a wonder you keep an A in there," the woman grumbled, waving a pass at him.

"Uh, thanks."

She shook her head disapprovingly at him as he grabbed the slip and left.

Justin nearly stumbled as the guard pushed at his shoulder roughly, trying to avoid the wall and coming into contact with it. He blinked and ignored whatever he saw behind the guard. The thing was waving at him, he guessed. Or waving something at him.

The walk to the Director's office was a short one since the man liked to keep an eye on him. He wasn't actually as terrible as anyone else here, even better sometimes. Like, once, he had given Justin a taste of a burger. It was this weird sandwich that the Reals outside ate, a fluffy bun with sesame seeds on top sandwiching a ground beef patty between lettuce and tomatoes and this weird red sauce. At first, Justin had thought it was blood and that the Director was playing some sick joke on him but then the man had shoved some in his mouth with his fingertips and it had been really good. Hell, he had almost smiled at the foreign taste.

They stopped in front of the office, the guard scowling, and Nurse Margaret frowning. She nudged him forward and knocked.

"Yes?" came the voice.

"It's the patient. 32589." She grunted, glaring at the door. The Director was a young man, nearing the end of his 20s. So, naturally, she was jealous that someone so "inexperienced" came into his position. One day, Margaret had told him it was become of family ties. Another, because he paid someone. And another, because he was a whore. Justin just thought it was because he was smart.

"Justin! Yes, come in!"

Justin hid the smallest of grins at Margaret's huff of anger and stepped inside, shutting the door behind him.

James rubbed the bridge of his nose and sighed as he stood up from his cramped desk. His glasses slipped. The bell had just rung, and the usual pandemonium of wanting to be the first person out of school had broken out. It being a Friday also probably contributed a bit.

His phone vibrated softly in the front pocket of his jeans. Who'd be texting him right when school let out?

From: Mom

Your dad just left to pick you up in the school parking lot. Wait for him there. We have important matters to discuss at home.

Callback #:
7829345743
Received:
Fri Apr 9, 2:00pm

James swallowed nervously. He couldn't remember the last time one of his parents had texted him with 'important matters to discuss'. In fact, this was probably the first time. And it probably wasn't good either...

Well Dad had mentioned a high end boarding school a few months ago... He'd said it would dramatically increase his prospects for getting into a good college. The kind of college with waiting lists and nerve wracking interviews and expensive watches and professors who thought they knew everything.

[i]Oh God please no. No no no. Not boarding school. Hell no.[i]

He shuddered and grabbed his backpack, silently praying for his freedom. James silently shouldered his way through the gradually thinning crowd of teenagers, heading for the west side of the school where they had a student pick up and drop off area. He picked out his dad's car instantly as he neared the area. A black Maybach. They were made in Germany apparently. And they weren't cheap either.
Apparently.

The window was rolled down and Mr. Larson leaned out a bit. He was a tall man, with dark hair that was starting to gray in places. His face never revealed much about him. He was always reflective and calm. And the man never talked much. If it weren't for his expressive eyes, you wouldn't think that he felt emotion.

And his eyes looked annoyed, and impatient.

"James hurry up! We don't have all day and we have to make a big decision soon!"

James didn't need any more encouragement to slip inside the car. He set his backpack down on the floor between his legs and settled back against the leather upholstery cautiously, noting the way his Dad tapped his long fingers on the wheel sporadically, never settling on one beat.

The awkward silence made the drive seem to last a lot longer than it should have.

James gave a small sigh of relief when they finally pulled into the three car garage.

"Mom's waiting for us in the kitchen," Mr. Larson said softly as he unbuckled his seat belt and opened his door.

James nodded and got out quickly, slinging his backpack over a shoulder as an afterthought. He followed his dad into the house, dread pooling in his gut.

They both kicked off their shoes and placed them in the large shoe rack that Mrs. Larson had insisted on. To spare the maids the agony of wiping up shoe prints.

"Hello? You two home?"

Her clear voice rang out like a bell through the hall.

"Yeah, it's us," called Mr. Larson.

They entered the lofty kitchen. Mrs. Larson was seated on one of several tall art-deco bar stools that lined the graceful granite counter island. Large windows and high ceilings let in lots of warm sunlight. The walls were a rich reddish-brown.

"Have a seat James."

James lowered himself onto a stool and faced his parents. His mom was short and stick-like. She took five different vitamins a day to ensure that her body got enough nutrients, because of how little she ate. It was disconcerting. But she couldn't much without her body rebelling.
Her hair was a soft curling dirty blond that led most people to believe that she was his biological mother. But their facial features didn't resemble each other in the slightest. Everything about her was delicate and petite, even her lips.
James was just a dork wearing nice clothes really. No delicacy there.

"So."
She folded her hands together and crossed one leg over the other.

James stared at them expectantly, waiting for them to go on. He hated how they always made him wait before they told him something. They seemed to enjoy drawing out the torment.

"Do you have any guesses about what this is?"

James tried to keep the annoyance out of his voice, but failed miserably, as he replied, "No, you haven't told me anything yet. Just that there's something important to talk about. So here I am, waiting."

His parents exchanged some sort of silent communication through eye contact.

Finally, Mr. Larson said, "Alright I'll tell you then. You remember Danny? Daniel? One of our old family friends from way back. Well he's actually pretty young, not that old at all. But his parents and us go way back. A few years ago he got the position as Director of a...health center of sorts. And he was talking to us about this patient who lives there, 35071. He's just a bit younger than you, and Danny was telling us a bit about him. He was telling us that...he thinks it would be better for his health if he left the center and started adjusting to life out in the open..."

James blinked. Something in the back of his mind was nagging at him now, and it felt pretty important...

Mrs. Larson picked up the conversation.

"Danny wanted us to bring him into our home, since he knows us so well and trusts us. But there's...a limited time frame on when we can make this work. So we need to decide. And we only have about an hour to make this decision and contact Danny with our answer. It's a complicated process, getting all the papers and everything together and he has to....jump through a few hoops. We thought this was a great idea, we know you've been so caught up in your own little world and helping this kid learn how to interact with people would be a great way for you to get out of your shell. He'd have the room across the hall from you, no need to worry about sharing your room. And we'd get him his own clothes, computer, electronics and whatever else he wants or needs. You won't have to worry about any of that-"

And suddenly he realized what was nagging at him.

"What's his name?"

"...Justin I think."

James deadpanned.

"Justin, please, sit down."

The Director was... was beaming. Such a wide smile on his face, stretching from ear to ear, his eyes twinkling with happiness...

Wait, wasn't he in trouble?

"Aren't I in trouble?" he asked meekly, ducking his head as he sat in the plush green chair in front of the oaken desk. Justin threaded his fingers together anxiously, not meeting the Director's warm gaze.

"No! No, Justin, not at all. This is actually a great thing, really." The man tapped the desk and then stood, coming around his desk to stand beside Justin. The brunet below couldn't flinching as the Director got close but the man didn't say anything, just smiled down at him, though more sadly, this time. "Trust me, Justin. This is good."

"See, I've come to notice the..." he sighed. "The morbid abuse you face every day. And you don't know any better." He paused. "My God, I even think you believe you deserve it."

"But, I do-"

"Justin!" the Director exclaimed sharply, smile gone in an instant. "You do not deserve it. Now, this is amazing. Truly ground breaking." The smile grew again. "I am friends with a very esteemed and top-end family. The Larson's. And I have brought to their attention your... situation. And, they have agreed to take you away."

The man smiled and stopped, as if waiting for Justin's reaction.

But he didn't have one.

He just sat there, face wiped of all emotion, just staring at the man with the usual pain-glazed eyes.

"What does that mean." Was all he asked quietly, still not altering his expression.

The Director frowned. He had expected more. And more, as in, anything at all. "It means that they're adopting you. Now, we have a very tight time frame and I had to pull a lot of strings, some of which were practically illegal, but, I've done it." The beaming grin was back. "If they're son is okay with it, they'll be adopting you. And they seemed very interested in the first place so I'm sure they'll agree no matter their son's opinion. I was just so excited and sure that you'd be released that I told you ahead of time."

Justin's expression fell.

...

Not what he had been expecting.

"But they're Reals!" Justin argued, expression indignant. "They're disgusted by me, they'll leave me in the streets! I'll be worse off than I am here! And here, at least I get the correct medication so that way I don't, you know, die! And-"

"They will be receiving the medication. You'll be coming to me for regular checkups. Justin, once you're free, I want you to live. Not die within the month." The smile subdued itself to a kind crook of the lips. "I'll keep you in good health. And you won't have to participate in those... repulsive "tests"!" he shuddered. "Those are inhumane and not to be subjected to anyone, let alone a child as special as you. Justin, I promise, this is a good thing.

"You'll have a good life after this."

Justin sighed and looked down.

"... What's the boy's name?" He'd be living with a group of total strangers, probably expected to interact with the kid. He wasn't good with Reals. The ones he knew knew him and they knew what he was. They weren't very accepting. This wouldn't end well. And he probably wasn't reacting in a normal way to the dreams. They'd be sending him back to this Institute within days...

"He's about your age. Great studies, almost as smart as your are. Good kid, no real troubles. He's named..."

He looked down at a paper on his desk.

"James."

...

Wait, Camden?

"James? James you've been really quiet about this. You need to tell us what you think so we can decide. We really don't have a lot of time."

The blond shook his head to clear his thoughts, but it was difficult. His mind was racing, thoughts bouncing off each other and breaking into little pieces that reformed and shifted and changed.

"We know this is a big decision but we re-"

"Go ahead. Yeah. Do it."

His voice was low and shook a little as he croaked out the words.

He nodded as he looked up to face his parents. They exchanged smiles as Mrs. Larson reached for her cell phone. She dialed so quickly that she mixed up some of the numbers and had to force herself to slow down. The other line picked up mere seconds after the phone began ringing.

"Danny, it's Olivia. He agreed."

She nodded as the other person on the phone spoke.

"Yeah, exactly. So how exactly is this going to work? How are we getting him here and when?"

She listened intently for a good two minutes, nodding and making little comments here and there.

James found himself zoning out as the conversation wore on. He was getting little fragments of...something coming back to him. They felt like memories but...They coudln't be because he would have remembered being somewhere so bizarre looking and...him. Yes that was...that was Justin. No, he wasn't Justin in this memory. He had another name. But it wouldn't come to him. But his face, it kept floating in his vision. Those eyes, those haunted, broken eyes that somehow managed to retain just the smallest spark of something. His mom's voice eventually broke through the fog of memory.

"Uh huh. Yeah. Alright, we'll get his room ready at the first chance. But of course, his safety is the most important thing to factor in here, can't imagine what he went through-"

Her eyes flicked to James and she broke off that train of thought quickly.

"Yeah, sorry. Didn't mean to, really...Mhm okay. Sounds like a plan. And really Danny, thank you. You have no idea what it means to me-no to us to be able to help. Ha yeah I'll stop taking up your time. You're such a busy guy now. Bye."

James watched closely from the corner of his eyes as she clicked the end button and subtly gestured with her head to Mr. Larson to meet her upstairs in a few minutes.

They had escape plans to discuss.

(if i need to change anything about the phone conversation I will. i was just bsing it pretty much cuz I don't know how the plans are gonna go and whatnot XD)

The Director was interrupted from his excited informing as his cell sounded. It was an odd song, something that really like to mess with Justin's head. A thumping beat that faded in and out of existence with warped sounds and screeches. Really an odd ringtone for a Director of a high rate Medical Institute to even consider.

The man hit whatever button he did and held the phone to his face. "Hello?... Olivia, that's amazing! Thank you so much!"

Justin couldn't help but cock his head to try and hear what exactly was happening. The other person, a woman, her voice was muffled and crackly and his head pounded more than usual from the additional stress and he just couldn't make out a word, unlike usual. Falling back into his chair with a huff, Justin crossed his arms and glared at the floor. Stupid carpet. You have been charged with a personal offense against Justin. Prepare to die.

As Justin imagined twisting the carpet this way and that, distorting the patterns into something new. the Director continued his conversation.

"Well, I'll have to weed my way through protocol after protocol and some security files. It's going to take a lot but we can do it."

He paused, listened, then immediately frowned as she began to say something. He quickly cut her off.

"Olivia."

Their conversation could be being monitored, even if the Director restricted it. They couldn't risk anything, not when they were this close to getting Justin out.

The woman said some more, and then they said their goodbyes.

The Director hung up the phone and placed it on the desk, absolutely beaming.

"You're getting out, Justin."

Justin looked up, still confused.

This was a joke, right?
