PostSubject: Up the Ante   Sun Apr 17, 2011 6:48 pm

"Aw man this is bad, this is very bad." Cal hung on to a writhing Cory as best as he could but the kid was damn strong when he needed to be, or really didn't need to be in this case. The older teen could barely remember why they'd even come to this casino ridden town, all he knew was Cory had freaked when he saw the number of ghosts around here, and they had apparently noticed him.
So now here they were, trying to keep him from sneaking into one of the casinos because he'd been possessed by some crazy ghost with a gambling problem.
"Nooooo! Let me goooooo!" Cory hissed and struggled to get out of the older teens full nelson.
"Just get out of the kid will ya! Steve will you stop playing with that stupid cat and help me!"
The tall alien looked over at the struggle, a small black and white cat in his arms. "Eh?"
"I said help me- gah!" Cal fell back as "Cory" bit his arm and pushed him back, running into the backdoor of the casino.
"Aw shit, this won't end well..." Cal jumped up and ran for the door after the possessed kid. "Come on Steve! Oh and put on your chameleon thing would ya!"
Steve blinked at the teen and looked back down at the cat.
"Meow?"
"Come kitty. We must follow now." The alien hit a button on his belt and his appearance changed to that of a very tall, tanned man with dark brown hair and big brown eyes. Satisfied with his disguise he followed after the two boys into the busy casino.

Austin darted between the people and the slot machines, eyes darting from person to person in search of his brother. This casino was infested with ghosts. They were here to try and get those people to let go of whatever was keeping them and get the hell out of limbo. God knows limbo was a Hell in itself. He had never understood why the dead were so eager to stay.

But right now, all he needed to do was find Dustin. They had been separated by a particularly nasty ghost. Ectoplasm and all. The main ghostie they were after was a hotel manager that had killed himself up in one of the offices. The woman who he had thought was his girlfriend was actually a whore. He had discovered the lady with one of his employees and had snapped, killing them both, then finishing himself off soon after. And now the guy got off by killing the prostitutes that hung around the casino. Lovely story, right?

Austin's eyes shot to the entrance as a frantic kid, probably about 12, with a teenager and older man following him close behind entred the casino. The kid looked pretty frantic. He frowned.

How odd. Last he checked, a 12 year old didn't really run into casinos like a crack addict for his dealer.

"You idiot, ghost! You're gonna get him arrested! Hell you're gonna get me arrested too! Get back here!" He lunged at Cory trying to grab the kid and drag him back outside, but the ghost was too fast and darted into the crowed of people, leaving Cal to fall flat on his face. "Damn it." The boy stood up and glared at the crowed of adults in front of him. "Aw man this is gonna suck so bad...Steve, why aren't you..." He turned back to see the disguised alien, still holding his new cat friend. "Damn it, Steve, they don't allow pets into these places! Put it back outside!"
Steve looked down at the boy with big sad eyes, "But the temperature outside is below sufficient-"
"That can has fur, Steve! It can find a box to crawl in an stay warm! You gonna get us kicked out and then we'll never find Cory before he gets into serious trouble. The school's gonna have a fit as it is if we're even found in here. Ugh." He sighed. "Look, just, hide the cat or something and use your super eyesight to find the kid. Please."
Steve gave a pointy-toothed grin and nodded, proceeding to hide the cat in his apparent shirt. He looked out over the crowed, trying to spot the small grey head in all the commotion. "Ah! He is there!" The alien pointed towards the slot machines, the small kid was weaving his was around in the crowed, a few tokens clenched in his fist.
"Alright, let's go after him. Come one Steve." Cal dove into the crowed and shoved his was towards the slot machines. He was mildly happy for his hair hiding most of his face, he hoped nobody would notice how young he was because of it. Steve followed after him, weaving his was through the people, supporting an arguing cat stuck in his shirt. "Shhh! Be good kitty! You are safe and warm with Steve, so be good."

The ghost in Cory darted through the crowed looking for an open slot machine. He'd never been this short when he had been to casinos before. It was kinda nice. He could dart through the crowed much easier than if he was a grown man trying to shove his way through. "Aaaaah!" He marked his target, and empty machine in the row of taken ones. He ran for it. The few wayward tokens he'd found on the ground clenched tightly in his fist. Finally! Oh it's been so long! He'd been wandering the casinos of this town since his death, never participating, always sentenced to just watch. Watch everyone else feed the machines, play the cards, battle the house! Oh he had missed the sensations. But now! Oh now was his chance to feel it all again! He scurried up into the empty seat, trembling from anticipation, he slid the first coin into the machine. Just one. He had to win more before he spent them all. Had to win. He pulled the old familiar lever, the familiar sounds that followed filled his ears. Oh he had missed this so much! The spinning shapes slowed and stopped each in their turn. No luck. He put the next coin in to try again.

Austin sidled up behind the kid, a bit thrown off by his eyes. Possession, probably. He'd known lots of ghosts hung around here. This kid was probably just an unfortunate victim. He stood behind the kid and watched the pictures fly.

"Gonna get lucky today?"

~ = ~

Dustin looked around, careful not to stick out. At least, not as much as that alien back there with a teen and cat- wait, what?!

He turned and did a double take. Yep. Alien. Probably using a cloaking device which would explain why no one was flipping out but it was definitely an alien. And they were running off to somewhere...

He took off after them, reason not really registering. After all, what would a dangerous alien be doing with a teenager?

"Hey! You!" He watched the alien shove the cat in his coat. "Come back here!"

"Cory" sat hunched over, eyes never leaving the spinning shapes and numbers. He rubbed his last two coins together, "Of course. I'm always lucky. Just gotta wait...patient patient, just gotta be patient." The spinning stopped. Another bust. "Damn." His quickly inserted the next coin. "This time. I know it." His focus was so intense on the machine that he hardly even remembered the other boy had talked at all.

---

The boy's shout was drowned in the roar of the crowed. Cal continued to shove his way through the crowed, desperately trying to look over heads to find Cory. "Damn it...oof!" He felt that awkward confined feeling you get in an overly crowded space as the crowed seemed to shove in on him. "Damn it...too many people." He glared ahead as the previous movement of the crowed came to an annoying standstill as everyone tried to get around everyone all at once.

Steve stopped at the edge of the mob and tried to find the raven headed emo in among all the other similar human heads. "Eeeeeh...Caaaal...I can find you..."
"Meow!"
"Quiet kitty!"

Austin continued to watch the possessed boy, trying not to laugh at the man/child's terrible luck. No matter how many coins he put in, he'd keep losing. Still, just in case this was a violent ghost, Austin pulled out a handful of more coins just in case. He had to keep this one happy until Dustin found him.

And then they had to go get their main target. He took a victim every night and the numbers of whores brave enough to come here were dropping. They wanted this guy gone before ti was too late.

Oh, hey.

The guy lost again.

... It was getting really hard to control his laughter.

~ = ~

Dustin scowled as the two disappeared. They weren't running, at least. Probably hadn't even heard him. These idiotic gamblers were loud as Hell and were oblivious to anything but themselves. Shit, he had just seen some old lady shove a younger man aside for his place at the slots. Talk about animals...

A flash of green caught his eye. Green skin... He stood in his tip-toes just to double check.

Yep. Green skin.

Pushing through the crowd towards the alien, he reached into his leather jacket and took hold of the colt inside, just in case.

"Cory" huffed and glared at the machine. "Last coin." He kissed it and put it into the slot. "Come on, come on." His eyes flitted back and forth between the three spinning slots. "Come oooooon." His eyes widened as the shapes slowed to a stop, three sevens in a row. He was about to shout out, but froze, mouth agape. A deep voice chuckled, "You've had your fun you pathetic fool. Now get out of the boy. He's mine."
The boy choked for air as the gambling man was forced out of him, his eyes rolled back in his head and he doubled over. "No...not you..." Tears formed at the corner of his eyes. "Go away..."
"Now now don't be like that. I want to talk to our little friend here. I thought he would expel that pathetic man from before, but he seems incapable of that alone." The voice chuckled again and Cory went still.

---

"Caaaaal!"
Cal twisted his head to look for his alien friend, still stuck in the seemingly immobilized crowed. Do these people seriously not know how to walk or something? "Steve! Go find Cory! Get him out of here! I'll find ya as soon as I get out of this damn crowd."
The alien stood at the edge of the crowd peering into the sea of head. "But...but you always tell Steve not to go alone."
"Just go find him! You'll be fine, just don't attract attention to yourself! Ack!"
Steve stood, shifting back and forth on his feet. "Eeeh...but...aaah...what to do kitty? What should we do?"
"Meow~"
"...You are not very helpful kitty."

To say Austin was alarmed by the sudden twist of events was an understatement entirely. He shot forward, grabbing onto the boy's arm (but not too firmly), before twisting the surprisingly light body towards hims. He was met with the barren whites of his eyes, blood veins visible and sickly to Austin. But the kid was absolutely still, limp, almost dead.

Which didn't really make him feel much better.

"Are you alright?" He called urgently, shaking his shoulders ever so slightly. "... Hey! Wake up!"

Freaking ghosts, he hated dealing with possessions.

~ = ~

Dustin reached the alien's side rather quickly. It was nice being smaller.

"Mr. Alien? What are you doing here?'

... He didn't know his name! What was he supposed to call him, extra terrestrial dude?!

A sick grin slowly grew over the boys face, his voice carrying odd, half heard undertones of a deeper voice. "Don't panic. I only want to talk. You have an odd sense for ghosts boy, but unlike this one you seem to be oddly protected from possession. You're something new." He tilted his head, his eyes still rolled back in his head. "What are you here for?"

---

"Eh?" Steve whipped around and looked down at the boy. "Ah...um...alien? There is no alien." Steve hoped the boy would believe the lie. Cal had always warned him not to let people know he was an alien or they might, what was the phrase he had said? Freak out? Yes that one, people might freak out and take him to bad places.
"Meow?"
"Quiet kitty!"

Austin blinked. Alright. Ghost-guy wanted to chat. Which was kinda discerning, considering the ghosts usually weren't able to recognize that Austin and Dustin were different than the others. I mean, it was obvious once you knew what it was, but wasn't when you didn't, you know? Still, thus ghost knew something. It'd probably be best to play along a bit, just for the vessel's sake.

"I'm here for the ghost in the offices..." he stated slowly. Couldn't give away what he was all too quickly or the thing would freak, probably.

~ = ~

"Dude, I know you're an alien, I can see through the cloaking device or whatever."

Dustin peered up at the alien, suddenly struck with how the thing was at least 2 feet taller than him. Annoying.

"Don't worry, I'm not gonna hurt you or whatever. Or freak. Or call the news." He took in a breath. "I just want to know what you're doing here."

"That fool? Figures. He attracts too much attention to himself. Practically screaming to be expelled." The ghost chuckled again. "So you're some kind of ghost hunter. And a bit better than the Ghostbusters if my suspicion is correct." He sneered, "But you're pretty useless without your partner aren't you? I wonder why that is."

---

Steve blinked with double lidded eyes. "You see through the disguise generator? I did not think humans had the eyes for it..." He peered down at him with curious eyes. "What I am doing...ah." He looked back at the crowed. "I was following Cal, who was following Cory...but now Cal said to go find Cory by myself...but Cal also says it's bad to go places by myself, that people would, ah...''freak out?' And now I am confused as to what I should do."
"Meow."
The alien sighed, "And kitty will not stay quiet."

Austin fumbled at how comfortable the ghost sounded talking to someone who exterminated spirits for a living. "I... I'm not useless without him. I can do my job just fine. I just... You know, prefer him to be around..."

Back-up, just in case. Better be safe than sorry, pray for the best while expecting the worst, entre a situation with a "thousand to one, million to two" mentality., call it what you liked.

Whatever kept innocents alive.

~ = ~

Dustin held back a grin. "Yeah, well, I'm not exactly human anymore so you're good. You're looking for..." he frowned. "Cory? Cal? Which one was the goth teen?"

He craned his neck to get a look at the tiny head of the cat peeking out from behind the alien.

"Cute kitty. Oh, and what's your name?"

The ghost laughed, "Oh you sound so very confident in yourself. But no matter. I suspect your partner will be over here as soon as he's done talking with the other freak." He looked in the direction where Dustin was talking with the alien, a green head visible just above the crowd. The ghost sneered again, "I do hope you can keep this little vessel safe. I would hate for anything to happen to him while I'm not hanging around."

---

Steve tilted his head. "Not human? Hm. Goth...teen...? Ah! That is Cal."
"Meeeeeow~"
"Humans seem to have difficulty with my name, so I am called Steve."

Cal had finally managed to force his was through the road block of a crowed and started looking around for his two friends. "Ugh, too many people..."

Austin bit his lip and fought a shudder. He had never liked dealing with spirits, especially alone. But Dustin had always told him to never let the things know. He shouldn't do anything to drop any hints.

He swallowed and looked over at his brother. The other hadn't noticed him.

"We can keep him safe..."

They'd be pretty lousy angels if they couldn't!

The ghost chuckled yet again, "I certainly hope so." He glanced back towards where Cal had escaped from the crowd. "Oh lovely the emo loser's free..."

Cal spotted the little grey headed kid, still seating at the slot machine and noticed his white eyes. "Oh shit, not now." He started sprinting through the crowed towards the slots. "Thiiiis is reeeally bad."

"Ah...hm. Yes please!" The alien smiled. "Ah...and what is your name?"

Austin looked up as a teenager clothes in black ran towards them, face panicked. Obviously not a good sign.

He took a step back and pulled out his colt, just in case.

~ = ~

"I'm Dustin." He replied with a smile. "Come on, we should get looking."

The ghost let a slow smirk creep across his face when he noticed the gun. "That emo kids pretty fucked up in the head, you'd probably be better off shooting him before he gets here." He twitched, "N-no..." A small voice squeaked out. "Quiet you."

Cal slid to a stop a few feet from the two as soon as he noticed the colt. "Fuck, and I thought we'd get arrested for being here..." Cal looked to Cory with a worried expression, that quickly turned to anger as the ghost possessing the boy grinned at him. "You get the fuck out of him you murdering bastard."

(...I think Cal is officially my cursing carry. It just suits him somehow. >w<' )

---

"A pleasure to meet you, Dustin." Steve nodded and looked back into the crowd, then towards the slot machines where he had seen Cory before. "Ah...Cal made it out of the other humans, and to Cory. They be easy to find now. Just have to get through all the other humans...so many humans all in one building!"
The cat started to purr.
"Ah! That tickles kitty!"

"Wait, so... who do I shoot?" Austin asked shakily. "Cause you know this gun can't kill humans, right?"

He looked to the goth.

"What's going on here again?"

~ = ~

"Yeah, there's a lot of them." Austin's smile faded to a grim line. "Just gotta wave a couple bucks in front of them and they'll come running."

"Shoot the emo kid. Maybe we'll get luck and he won't be human." The ghost grinned.

Cal glanced at Austin but kept his focus on Cory. "I don't think that's really any of your business..."

Cal narrowed his eyes at the kid. "You hurt Cory and I swear you'll get worse from me."

Cory laughed, "Oh boy, this is getting a bit to intense for my tastes. I think it's time for me to hang back and watch the show for now." He grinned, "You better protect this kid ghost hunter. He's very important to me." The ghost chuckled one last time and left Cory. The grey haired kid sucked in air as his rolled back into their proper place. The small boy started trembling and breathing heavily.

Cal relaxed a bit, the worry over taking his anger. "Cory...you alright?"

Cory just nodded, not trusting himself to speak just yet.

---

Steve peered over the crowed at the three by the slots. "Hm...it seems Cory may have...ah! That one has a gun! I must help." Steve looked around desperately for a way through the crowd.
"Mreeeeeow~!"

Dustin cursed as the alien took off, following close behind.

"Austin!" he shouted, reaching his twins side.

Austin looked up and slipped the gun back into his jacket. Dustin didn't like him using the gun usually. His aim was shit.

"Hey... This kid." he pointed to Cory. "He was possessed. And by something big." he sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "That manager seems to be like the least of our worries now..."

"Hell if I trust you..." Cal looked up as Steve and a new kid arrived. "There you are, Steve. I was worried you'd gotten into trouble."

The alien smiled. "Steve made a new friend. But then saw this one had a gun, and Cory..."
"Meow..."

"I'm alright." Cory took a deep breath to steady himself and glanced at the twins. "H-he won't come back. Not while you two are here. He...he's not stupid. Was...was that a cat?"

Austin stared at Steve in disbelief.

"... Why is he green."

Dustin shrugged. "Alien. They're green, I guess."

"... But green... And..." He swatted at his brother's arm for attention he knew he already had. "Please tell me he's cloaked or something."

Dustin rolled his eyes. "Duh. Or else people'd be flipping out."

Austin nodded. "O-okay." he took in a deep breath before turning a gentler, calmer eye to Cory. "Are you alright? Who was that?"

"You are not human either?" Steve tilted his head.

Cal blinked, "Wait what? You can...see him?"

Cory nodded and gave an small but convincing fake smile, "I'm fine. Used to it really..." He studied the designs on the carpet of the casino. "T-that ...that was Ch-charlie..."
